Brent Naden, a former outside back for the Wests Tigers, has signed a two-year contract with a new club, ensuring he can continue his rugby league career into the next season. Naden was one of six players released by the Tigers at the conclusion of the 2025 NRL season, joining other departures such as Brandon Tumeth and Justin Matamua.
The 29-year-old will be joining the Thirroul Butchers, a team established in 1913 that competes in the Illawarra Division Rugby League (IDRL). The Butchers had a strong performance in the recent season, reaching the semi-finals before being defeated by the Corrimal Cougars.
Although Naden only played eight first-grade matches for the Tigers in 2025, he brings significant experience to the Butchers with seven seasons in the NRL and a total of 80 matches under his belt. His versatility is a valuable asset, as he can play in every position in the back-line, including the halves. Naden has also had stints with the Canterbury Bulldogs and Penrith Panthers, where he served as the 18th man during the Panthers' NRL Grand Final win against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2021.
