The NRL's Match Review Committee has delivered its verdict regarding Newcastle Knights winger Greg Marzhew following his encounter with the St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday night.
In the 46th minute, Marzhew was charged with a grade 1 careless high tackle for hitting opposing winger Setu Tu in the face.
This incident initially went unnoticed by the match officials, but after Tu remained dazed on the field, further scrutiny led to Marzhew being placed on report.
Since it was Marzhew's second offence, he faces a fine of $1800 if he accepts an early plea. However, if he decides to contest the charge and is unsuccessful, the penalty could increase to $2500.
Marzhew's frustration was evident as he and teammate Bradman Best prepared for a play while Tu was on the ground.
"He had plenty to say to him too, Marzhew. He was not happy that he laid down," remarked Andrew Johns during the Nine commentary.
"He's hit him right in the beak."
Fortunately, Tu managed to recover quickly, contributing effectively for the Dragons in the game's later stages despite being briefly stunned.
This wasn't their only collision; Marzhew had already been penalised in the first half for another encounter with Tu, who emerged unscathed from that earlier incident.
