The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have confirmed that veteran winger Marcelo Montoya will retire at the conclusion of the year after a decade in the NRL.
With over 160 NRL appearances split between the New Zealand Warriors and two stints at the Bulldogs, Montoya has chosen to end his playing career.
Having progressed through the club's development system, the junior from Bankstown Bulls has scored 58 tries during his time, including an impressive 12 tries in just 19 matches during his debut season, which earned him the club's Steve Mortimer Rookie of the Year award in 2017.
In 2021, Montoya joined the Warriors to further enhance his skills before making a return to Belmore in 2025, where he became a key player in Cameron Ciraldo's team, participating in 26 matches over two seasons.
"I started my career here so it feels right to also finish it as a Bulldog," Montoya expressed in a Bulldogs statement.
"From the kid running around for the Bankstown Bulls to playing in NRL Finals series' and representing my culture on the biggest stages, I'll be forever grateful for the opportunities rugby league has given myself and my family."
"While I'm excited for the next chapter, I'm 100% focused on finishing this season off strongly and hopefully doing something special with my brothers."
Throughout his NRL journey, Montoya also earned representative honors, having played for Fiji nine times.
