Wayne Bennett was straightforward in his post-match press conference, stating his team needed to address "what's between their ears" after the 45-26 defeat to the Warriors.
The Rabbitohs had an opportunity to secure a finals position with a win on Saturday night, almost completing a remarkable comeback despite trailing 26-8 at halftime.
However, South Sydney must wait another week to confirm their place in the top eight, and Bennett had little to say when asked for a summary of the match.
"Not really," Bennett replied, before being asked about areas for improvement within his squad.
"What's between their ears," he remarked, adding: "We were not real smart at different times out there."
The question that caught the veteran coach's attention was about the Rabbitohs' effort and whether he felt "proud" of their resilience.
"I'm never disappointed with their effort, okay," Bennett responded firmly.
Nonetheless, Bennett expressed disappointment regarding his team's execution, particularly in the first half when the Warriors scored three times within 32 minutes.
