Manly's decision to lock in Josh Schuster on a hefty paycheck last year is starting to look like a real fumble in the play.

News from news.com.au is reporting that pundits are calling it the "worst contract ever negotiated by a club."

Rumors are swirling that the Sea Eagles and Schuster are about to part ways in a friendly contract termination but with a hefty payout of nearly $1 million.

Schuster signed a three-year deal in June last year, said to be valued at $800,000 per season, which supposedly included some weight-related clauses.

It's been said that the second-rower hit a career-low weight of 112 kilograms over the summer, only to see his fitness decline again after a bout of chickenpox before Christmas.

Injuries like a broken finger and calf strain further derailed his training, forcing him to miss the season opener and return through the New South Wales Cup.

In the world of Rugby League, this contract saga is shaping up to be a real twist in the game plan.
