In a significant change for the NRL, Peter Doust has stepped down as a board member of the St George Illawarra Dragons, with the club announcing Peter King as his successor.
Doust has had a long and varied career with the Dragons, notably serving as the CEO for nearly two decades from 1999 to 2018.
After resigning from his CEO position, he retained a place on the board but has now confirmed his departure from the club altogether.
Chairman Andrew Lancaster expressed gratitude for Doust's lengthy service to the team.
"Peter Doust has served the Dragons for many years, and his contribution to the club deserves to be acknowledged," Lancaster stated in a club announcement.
"He has been closely connected to the modern history of the Dragons, both as Chief Executive Officer and as a director, and has always had a deep passion for the Red V."
"On behalf of the Board, the members, supporters, players and staff, I thank Peter for his commitment to the club and wish him all the very best for the future."
Doust, a contentious figure among the fan base, faced criticism, especially as the club has struggled to achieve success since the merger of the St George Dragons and Illawarra Steelers, aside from the 2010 premiership win under coach Wayne Bennett.
Although recent frustrations from fans have not been directed at Doust since he stepped down from the CEO role, the Dragons' 2026 season has seen challenges, leading the board to terminate the contracts of head coach Shane Flanagan and head of football Ben Haran following Round 7.
