Dragons' Liddle Faces Season-Ending Calf Injury Setback

Connor Muhleisen

The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced that Jacob Liddle will miss the remainder of the season due to a calf strain.

During the first half of their Round 25 match against the Canterbury Bulldogs, Liddle went down, raising concerns that he might have hurt his Achilles.

Dan Lawson, the head of performance for the Dragons, expressed initial worry about the injury's seriousness, stating, "It looked pretty bad, we were quite concerned to start off with."

According to an X post from Nrl Physio, the nature of Liddle's injury indicated a possible Achilles problem, especially given the non-contact nature of the incident.

Liddle had already missed the beginning of the 2026 season due to a high-grade hamstring injury he sustained during pre-season training in January.

At the season's start, the Dragons struggled with dummy half depth as backup Connor Muhleisen was recovering from an ACL injury sustained in the 2025 Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Grand Final.

After coming off the bench in Round 3, Liddle was poised to make his first start in Round 7, following a last-minute decision from Coach Shane Flanagan.

Unfortunately, he re-aggravated his hamstring injury during the warm-up, leading to another period on the sidelines.

In a recent update, Dan Lawson confirmed, "the scans were positive, he has a calf strain, not as bad as previously thought."
