Leota's Future Uncertain Amid Eels Interest

Frontrunner Identified for Moses Leota

Penrith Panthers prop Moses Leota has surfaced as a key player for the Parramatta Eels, who are rivaling Sydney teams after he received permission to explore his future this week.

The prop, previously seen as a potential lifelong member of the Panthers, made headlines when it was disclosed that the club allowed him to assess his value well ahead of the November 1 deadline.

Leota's future with the Panthers, potentially lasting until 2027, may hinge on the next few months. It's reported that Penrith is willing to let one of their most enduring players gauge his worth before re-entering negotiations.

While Leota seems inclined to stay with the Panthers-who will be coached by Peter Wallace starting in 2028-their tight salary cap situation complicates matters.

Wide World of Sports reports that the Parramatta Eels have already shown interest in pursuing discussions with his management.

"They are keen to talk so we will sit down with them and see what they have to offer," stated Leota's manager, Gavin Orr.

"If it is a strong offer we will seriously consider it. If not, he will stay where he is."

"Moses loves it at Penrith, but he is 30 and will be 32 when he signs his next contract, so it will probably be his last contract."

"We just want to see what his value is and how he stands in the marketplace, and it was good of the Panthers to let him get in early and see where he is at."
