Lebanon assemble cross-code coaching team

Will Genia greets Michael Cheika and players pose for the Rugby League World Cup.

Will Genia, who earned 110 Wallabies appearances as a scrum-half, has joined Michael Cheika's coaching staff for Lebanon's Rugby League World Cup campaign.

Cheika, fresh from helping the Sydney Roosters win the NRL premiership as forwards coach, will lead the group alongside newly appointed NSW Blues coach Matt King.

Former Wests Tigers, NSW Blues and Lebanon hooker Robbie Farah will also work with the squad, while 2005 AFL premiership-winning Swan Nick Davis takes charge of kicking.

Davis has worked with the Roosters and in the NRL as a specialist kicking coach, while Genia previously played under Cheika for the Wallabies.

Wests Tigers forward Alex Twal will captain Lebanon after missing the previous World Cup through injury. "It is very humbling," Twal told AAP about the coaching staff.

"All of them are high-profile in the sporting world and we are lucky to have them on the team passing on their knowledge."

"I missed the last World Cup through injury, which was disappointing, but I've had this written down on the calendar for a long time and I'm looking forward to it," Twal said.

Twal said representing his Lebanese heritage was important to him: "I can't wait for the opportunity to represent my heritage and roots on my mum's side. She was born in Lebanon. We are very proud people," he said.
