Fiji and Italy remain possible international choices for Mark Nawaqanitawase, alongside Australia; all three nations have qualified for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

The departing Sydney Roosters winger was expected to join the Wallabies ahead of the tournament, but will not represent Australia in the immediate internationals.

His manager, Milan Volavola-Shankar, told News Corp that Nawaqanitawase informed Wallabies coach Les Kiss in July and Rugby Australia had also been notified.

"Mark will not be available for international rugby this year," Volavola-Shankar told the publication.

Nawaqanitawase is moving to Japan to join the Panasonic Wild Knights, with his immediate focus on settling into the club and preparing for the season.

He will complete a three-year international stand-down period in August next year, making him eligible to represent a country other than Australia.

"With his heritage making him eligible to represent both Italy and Fiji, he remains open to all options regarding his international future."

After switching codes two years ago, Nawaqanitawase could return to the NRL when his Japanese contract ends at the start of 2029.
