Latrell Mitchell's situation has become a laughingstock in the NRL, with South Sydney's baffling handling of his injury status leaving fans scratching their heads.

It's as if the Rabbitohs have developed a case of selective memory loss, with their ever-changing timeline for Mitchell's return resembling a game of rugby league Chinese whispers.

Despite originally ruling him out for the remainder of the season, Souths are now attempting a Hail Mary pass by suggesting he is miraculously fit to serve his suspension this weekend against the Roosters.

If the NRL allows this charade to continue, it's like handing the keys to the kingdom over to the rogue clubs who play by their own rules.

Souths are pushing the boundaries so far, they might as well be doping up for a month straight.

It's a farce of epic proportions, and one that the NRL needs to address before it spirals out of control.

Let's hope they don't drop the ball on this one.
