Hutchison joins Christchurch NRL bid

Secret player revealed in bid for second New Zealand NRL team

Sports Entertainment Group acquired New Zealand audio business MediaWorks this year.

The Daily Telegraph reports that chief executive Craig Hutchison joined a Christchurch-based bid for a second NRL team in New Zealand.

SEN's team holdings include the Sydney Sirens, Melbourne Mavericks, Perth Lynx and Bendigo Spirit.

Asked by the publication about the speculation, Hutchison said: "I can't comment on that - we seem to be part of speculation on all teams that come up across different sports,"

"What I would say is we are on the record as believers of sports teams and their impact with the Sports Entertainment Group. And we remain interested in growing the interests in rugby league across radio, TV and beyond.

"The league has great leadership under Peter V'landys and amazing momentum, and we are always open-minded in all sports of any role we can play that drives value for fans and the shareholders."
