Clinton Gutherson, the fullback for the St. George Illawarra Dragons, has shared his insights on Scott Drinkwater's long-term signing by the club.
Gutherson has expressed his willingness to play in various positions, as both athletes vie for the same fullback spot.
This generous mindset from Gutherson prioritizes the team's needs over personal preference, thereby enhancing the club's attacking potential.
The experienced captain acknowledged that Drinkwater's addition is a superb move for the Dragons and will undoubtedly enrich the team starting in 2027.
"Great signing, quality player has been for a long time and just sent him a text before he had signed to try to get him across," Gutherson remarked in a media session on Wednesday.
"So who knows if I get the tap on the shoulder next? But who knows, mate, I want to make this team stronger, and he definitely does that."
Having played at various positions in the NRL, including centre, five-eighth, and wing, Gutherson has been linked to a potential shift to lock or centre, which he may take on this Saturday against the Newcastle Knights.
This transition would allow Drinkwater to step into the fullback role while giving the team additional direction and a ball-playing presence through Gutherson.
"We're lucky enough to wear the jerseys each week and look, wherever I play, I've always said it, it doesn't bother me. So wherever he (coach Young) needs me, wherever he wants me to play, and this week, it is in the one. So I'll do my job there," he stated.
