South Sydney got off to an absolute flyer against Penrith, but fans were left scratching their heads as a controversial decision reopened a can of worms from last week.

If Souths were looking for a response from their players after the unceremonious sacking of Demetriou earlier in the week, interim coach Ben Hornby certainly got it as his side raced to a 12-0 lead.
With the help of a dodgy hip drop on Jye Gray that saw Izack Tago sent to the bin, Souths took full advantage of the numerical superiority to storm into the lead.
However, the opening try, scored by Izaac Thompson in the corner, raised more than a few eyebrows among fans, who were left wondering how it was allowed to stand.
