Folau Slams NRL's Double Standards

Former NRL player Israel Folau and his partner have finally spoken out following reports that the Wests Tigers were keen on securing the services of the 37-year-old before the June 30 deadline.

Maria, Folau's partner, took to social media to share their perspective, as the dual international criticized the NRL for what he deemed double standards in their decision to retract a contract offer.

She claimed that Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall had approached Folau about joining the club for the rest of the season, with Folau expressing his willingness. However, discussions involving the ARL and the Tigers' board led to a stalemate, resulting in the Tigers deciding against submitting a contract.

"The double standard from the NRL is crazy," Israel remarked in the comments section of his partner's Instagram post.

"The game talks about inclusion, yet my Christian beliefs were said to be a problem and didn't align with their values."

"At the same time, players who've committed actual offences have been welcomed back. Make it make sense."

Maria further elaborated that upon returning from abroad, Folau was informed that the Tigers lost interest due to potential media distractions and disagreements within the board regarding the club's vision.

"Benji contacted 'Iz' saying that he wanted Izzy to be a part of the Wests Tigers for the remainder of the season," she stated.

"Iz told Benji he would have to clear it with Peter V'Landys due to the situation with the Dragons in 2021, which had prevented Izzy from playing in the NRL. Benji assured him that everything was fine and had been cleared with V'Landys and the Tigers board."
