The Parramatta Eels have announced that Will Penisini's last-minute withdrawal from the surprising victory over the Brisbane Broncos was due to a groin injury.

Jordan Samrani stepped in for him during the match, and he is expected to play again this weekend, as Penisini is projected to be out for a month.

The club revealed that the decision to rule Penisini out was prompted by adductor-related groin pain, which will keep him sidelined for the following four weeks. However, such injuries can be tricky to navigate, meaning his return isn't assured.

Consequently, Penisini will miss the upcoming match against the St George Illawarra Dragons at home, along with games against the Penrith Panthers, Wests Tigers, and Gold Coast Titans in the following weeks. He may be in contention to return in Round 7 for a matchup against the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, Samrani will compete with Brian Kelly to secure the open spot in the center position during Penisini's absence.

Additionally, the Eels have confirmed that back-up half Ronald Volkman will be out for the next two weeks due to a quad strain. He has yet to play at either the NRL or NSW Cup levels this year.
