Parramatta coach Jason Ryles expressed his confusion after the Eels delivered one of their poorest performances this season, falling 32-12 to South Sydney at CommBank Stadium on Friday night.
As they kicked off Beanies for Brain Cancer Round on their home turf, the Eels were outmatched by a Rabbitohs team that took full advantage of numerous errors and defensive shortcomings.
Throughout the match, Parra seemed disorganized and drained, a sentiment supported by the stats. Despite possessing the ball for 48 percent of the game, they managed a mere 65 percent completion rate, compounded by 18 errors and 41 missed tackles.
Ryles' frustration became palpable midway through the first half when cameras caught him slamming his walkie-talkie on the desk and then punching a wall in the coaches' box.
"She's pretty hot up there (in the box) sometimes," Ryles remarked humorously when questioned about his outburst.
Nevertheless, his tone shifted dramatically during the post-match press conference, which barely extended beyond two minutes.
"I probably don't have the vocabulary to articulate how I actually feel, so disappointing is probably one way to put it," Ryles stated after a reporter used the term 'disappointing' to describe the performance.
"It was self-inflicted; they didn't have to earn a whole heap of what they did tonight. They made their one-on-one tackles on the trial, and we didn't.
"We completed at 38% in the second half with 40% possession. You won't beat a park football team on that. So that's the reality of where we're at the moment.
