The push for salary-cap dispensation by the Eels has intensified following the latest injury setback.
Parramatta's coach, Jason Ryles, remarked that it would be "common sense" for the NRL to allow his club some relief, especially after witnessing a third player go down due to foul play.
Winger Bailey Simonsson's season is likely finished after he dislocated his ankle during a golden-point defeat against the Wests Tigers on Monday.
The injury occurred when he was tackled in the air, leading to immediate hospitalization.
Luke Laulilii, the Tigers' winger responsible for the tackle, was sin-binned, and he may face further repercussions as the league might consider Simonsson's injury in their assessment.
This new injury adds to the woes of the Eels, who have already lost J'maine Hopgood to a season-ending ACL rupture from a hip-drop tackle last month, and fullback Isaiah Iongi is out for at least two months due to a similar injury.
Despite the current NRL regulations not offering salary-cap exemptions for injuries resulting from foul play, the Eels had intended to discuss the issue even before Monday's unfortunate events.
"Surely I think it'd be something worth considering," Ryles stated, emphasizing the need for change.
