Eel takes hiatus from NRL, uncertainty looms ahead

Parramatta Eels player Shaun Lane will not be taking the field in any game this weekend, as he is taking a break from rugby league to consider his future.

Lane has played in five out of six games for the Eels this season, missing only the Round 1 loss to the Melbourne Storm.

Despite starting in every game he has played, Lane has been struggling for form, averaging only 53 metres per game and scoring just one try.

The edge forward was dropped to reserve grade for this weekend's game by coach Jason Ryles.

The club confirmed Lane's absence in a statement, saying, "Shaun Lane is taking some time away from the game to consider his future and won't be playing this weekend." It is unclear what this break means for Lane's future with the Eels.
