$600k for 14 minutes: Phil Gould's costly signing

The man with the plan, Phil Gould, has been making all the right moves for the Bulldogs as they gear up for the finals.

However, not every player brought in by the footy genius has hit the mark.

According to reports from news.com.au, Canterbury prop Ryan Sutton has become a cautionary tale in this year's NRL Rich 100 list.

Despite earning a hefty paycheck, Sutton has only seen 14 minutes of game time this season - all of which were in reserve grade.

While his teammates are getting ready for the club's first finals appearance in nearly a decade, Sutton finds himself on the sidelines, nursing his wounds at Belmore.

Hailing from across the pond, the Englishman was brought in from Canberra last season but has only managed 13 appearances for the Bulldogs, all of which were in the previous year.

After overcoming knee and hip surgeries in the first half of the season, Sutton finally made his comeback in Round 18, lining up for the club's NSW Cup side.

It's been a tough road for the big fella, but that's footy for you.
