The Melbourne Storm have initiated efforts to secure their future talents by signing versatile player Stanley Huen to a contract extension.
As reported by Code Sports, the 21-year-old has officially signed after featuring in four matches for the Storm this season.
Huen, whose contract was set to expire at the end of this season, originally progressed through the ranks as a five-eighth but has recently played as a lock forward. He had spent four years in the club's pathways system before signing his first NRL contract in 2024.
A former vice-captain of the Queensland Maroons' Under-19s State of Origin team, Stanley has garnered praise for his strong leadership qualities and eagerness to improve.
Although he has been on a development deal for the past two seasons, it remains uncertain if the contract extension will elevate Huen to the club's top 30 for the upcoming 2027 season.
With his NRL debut this year, he has achieved one of his two personal goals for 2023.
"The end goal is to hopefully make it in the NRL and open my own barbering business, so my fan base from the NRL feeds into my barber shop business," Huen stated.
"I have a backup plan, and it's a pretty good back up plan if you ask me."
This weekend, the 21-year-old will not be in action, as both the Storm's first-grade and NSW cup teams are enjoying a bye.
