Corey Horsburgh Joins Perth Bears: A New Era Begins

NRL Rd 4 – Cowboys v Raiders

Corey Horsburgh's transfer to the Perth Bears has been officially confirmed, with the expansion club announcing on Sunday morning that they have secured the forward on a three-year contract.

This agreement was initially disclosed early last week but has now been officially acknowledged by the Bears as they prepare their first-ever roster for the NRL debut in 2027.

The deal is believed to be valued at about $2.3 million over the course of three seasons, with Horsburgh reportedly receiving $700,000 annually.

Additionally, the contract is said to feature ratchet clauses that will allow for his salary to rise as the new record-setting NRL broadcast deal comes into effect in 2028.

Horsburgh will join fellow Canberra Raiders player Morgan Smithies, bringing valuable experience and intensity to the Bears' first forward pack.

His upcoming exit from Canberra was disclosed last month when the Raiders began to investigate his opportunities in the open market, despite his contract with the club lasting until the end of the 2027 season.

The Bears successfully signed Horsburgh ahead of the Brisbane Broncos, who could not meet his salary demands.

He has participated in 132 NRL matches for Canberra since his first-grade debut and was a part of Queensland's triumphant 2023 State of Origin team.

He also made his senior international debut for the Prime Minister's XIII in 2025.
