Rugby League fans are up in arms over the controversial Dally M judging system, which saw Kalyn Ponga snatch the top individual award from Shaun Johnson by just one point.

New Zealand supporters stayed up late, hoping to see Johnson secure his first Dally M medal after an outstanding season.

However, Ponga's exceptional form in the second half of the season propelled him to victory, earning six points in most of the games during the Knights' unbeaten streak.

During the awards night, Ponga and Johnson were seen sharing a moment, adding to the drama.

Despite Johnson's strong performance in round 25 against Manly, where he provided a try-assist, two linebreak assists, and a field goal, he received zero points.

This decision left fans fuming, especially considering Dallin Watene-Zelezniak's hat-trick for the Warriors and Jason Saab's three tries for Manly.

Unfortunately for Johnson, this game, coupled with his injury in round 27, effectively ended his chances of winning the award.

Adding to the controversy, this year marked the introduction of two judges who allocated three, two, and one points each in a game.

Previously, a player could receive a maximum of six points for their performance.

The outcry from fans highlights the perceived flaws in the Dally M judging system, leaving many questioning its fairness and accuracy.
