The Brisbane Broncos have issued a statement following a controversial video shared by Reece Walsh on social media over the weekend. In the video, Walsh, who recently played for the Broncos in a high-scoring match against the North Queensland Cowboys that secured the team fourth place in the NRL standings, appears to drink from a toilet bowl.

In the Instagram story, Walsh jokes, "they reckon there is a new form of recovery to recover the muscles. Toilet water, just have a little drink," while taking exaggerated gulps.

The club defended Walsh in a statement obtained from News Corp, explaining their awareness of the video and clarifying that he used a "brand-new toilet" in a "new bathroom" that hadn't been utilized yet. They emphasized the humorous intent behind the post.

"Brisbane Broncos are aware of a video posted by Reece Walsh on a social media platform," the statement read. "The club can clarify that Walsh is currently renovating his home and has installed a brand-new toilet in a new bathroom, which remains unused."

They further added, "The video represents a poor attempt at humour posted privately by Walsh. No one should take this video seriously or act upon the advice."
