AJ Brimson, a utility back for the Gold Coast Titans, is reportedly in discussions with the PNG Chiefs about possibly joining as a foundational player.
This week, the Titans surprised many in the NRL by allowing Brimson to look for opportunities outside of their club based in Robina.
Although Brimson's contract with the Gold Coast runs until the conclusion of the 2030 season, he is currently playing in the centers and wishes to return to his favored fullback role.
While he has always preferred staying with the Gold Coast, these latest conversations show he is now considering positions with another team that would allow him to wear the number one jersey.
Titans coach Josh Hannay confirmed to News Corp earlier this week that Brimson is free to explore the market.
"As a club we have the utmost respect for AJ and we know he loves this club and always will," Hannay said.
"The discussions have been incredibly respectful and will remain so. There is no animosity either way. This is simply a decision that both parties see as being in their own best interests."
Brimson is now reportedly negotiating with the PNG Chiefs and could potentially become their seventh player.
The team, coached by Willie Peters, has already secured Jarome Luai, Zac Lomax, Brian To'o, Alex Johnston, Matty Lees, and Connor Watson for their first season.
