The Gold Coast Titans are considering letting outside back Jaylan De Groot look for opportunities with other clubs, despite his contract lasting until 2027.
Typically, the 23-year-old would need to wait until November 1 to officially explore his options, but the Titans seem willing to allow discussions before next season.
De Groot offers flexibility in the backline, capable of playing as a winger, centre, or fullback.
He debuted in the NRL in 2024 and has made eight appearances this season, contributing in both the wing and centre positions.
This development arises as the Titans anticipate a major change in their outside backs, with AJ Brimson also allowed to negotiate with other clubs despite a contract through 2030.
Brimson, who previously wore the Titans' fullback jersey, has been playing in the centres and halves but prefers the fullback position, currently held by Keano Kini, with Jayden Campbell available as well.
The Titans are preparing to lose winger Phillip Sami next season, as he will be joining the St George Illawarra Dragons.
Consequently, the Titans' backline might undergo significant changes starting in 2027.
For the upcoming match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Kini is the only player in the backline with a long-term first-grade contract, while rising centre Siale Faeamani is expected to join the Top 30 squad for 2027.
