As the Cronulla Sharks prepare for their vital matchup against the North Queensland Cowboys, two players have their sights set on a bittersweet farewell to their current club.
Sione Katoa and Jesse Ramien are both on the verge of significant transitions as they plan to join the Cowboys next season.
However, they are determined to help their current team secure a win on Saturday night, a victory that would mark the end of North Queensland's season.
Katoa, an experienced winger, views this match as pivotal in his career, stating his desire to leave with a special memory.
"I want to play good for the Sharks, and then they can see what's coming over," he said, emphasizing his commitment to his current team.
Katoa realizes that a loss could signify his eleven-year tenure with the Sharks is over.
"I was emotional thinking about having played my last game at Shark Park. I've been here since I was 18 years old," he remarked, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
Ramien, constrained by injury and recovery post-surgery, is focused on supporting his teammates, even if he can't physically contribute on the field.
"This year I am Sharkies through and through," he declared, demonstrating loyalty to his current club despite an impending move.
The 29-year-old underwent pectoral surgery last month, a decision driven by the severity of his injury.
Although other players have delayed similar procedures, Ramien was advised that rehabilitation alone wouldn't suffice for his complete recovery.
"He said it was ripped off completely, so there wasn't really any chance," Ramien explained, acknowledging the difficult nature of injuries in professional sports.
Reflecting on his time at Cronulla, Ramien expressed gratitude, stating, "It's been bittersweet. It's unfortunate, injuries are part of the game, and I have absolutely loved my time at the club."
