Australia's World Cup opener selection shake-up

Australia confirm 23-man Rugby League World Cup squad

Walters has picked Manly fullback Tom Trbojevic and Dolphins centre Jack Bostock as Australia's wing options.

The Kangaroos open their Rugby League World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 15.

"Bostock and Trbojevic will be on the wings, that's what they have been selected for," Walters told News Corp.

"They are both comfortable with those roles."

In the predicted 19-man squad, James Tedesco starts at fullback, with Trbojevic and Bostock on the wings.

Latrell Mitchell and Bradman Best are the centres, while Cameron Munster and Sam Walker form the halves.

Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Patrick Carrigan lead the forward pack, with Harry Grant at hooker.

Liam Martin and Jacob Preston are the second-rowers, and Isaah Yeo is captain at lock.

Tedesco's premiership-season Clive Churchill Medal and NSW Origin success put him ahead of Reece Walsh for the No.1 jersey.

Nathan Cleary's injury leaves the halfback spot open; Walker is favoured over Thomas Dearden and Mitchell Moses after his strong season.

Bench selections are Blayke Brailey, Cameron Murray, Keaon Koloamatangi, David Fifita, Dearden and Walsh.

Reserves are Lindsay Smith, Reuben Cotter, Moses and Kotoni Staggs.
