Knights coach Adam O'Brien was left seething over a controversial no-call in the dying stages of the match, as Newcastle fans booed in frustration.

The incident in question had O'Brien seeing red, believing Roosters winger Fetalaiga Pauga should have been shown the bin for his actions.

The missed penalty call in the crucial minutes of the game left O'Brien feeling like his team had been robbed of a chance to level the scores with a penalty goal.

In true Rugby League fashion, Knights fullback Kalyn Ponga made a break in the 79th minute when his team was trailing 22-20.

However, his momentum was halted just before reaching the Roosters' 40-metre line by Pauga.

Ponga's plea to referee Gerard Sutton for a penalty that could have allowed his team to tie the game fell on deaf ears.

The controversial no-call prompted a wave of frustration from O'Brien and the Newcastle faithful, with former player Gorden Tallis criticizing the Roosters' tactics of slowing down the ruck.

While such incidents are usually penalized in NRL games, the intensity of the moment may have swayed the decision.

Despite the missed opportunity, the Roosters managed to hold on for the win, much to the disappointment of the Knights and their coach.
