Sam Burgess, head coach of Warrington Wolves, has indicated that captain George Williams may have played his final match for the club as he prepares for neck surgery.
Williams, in the final year of his contract, joined the Wolves in 2021 and is set to return to the NRL in 2027, likely signing with the Dolphins.
The England captain sustained his injury during a recent match against Catalans Dragons in France.
Given that there are just over five months left in the Super League season, it remains uncertain whether he will don the primrose and blue again.
"It is quite a sensitive issue with his neck. We are mindful of that and are not going to rush anything. He will need surgery," Burgess said.
"You have to be really mindful, and we have to make good decisions for him and his long-term health."
