What's next for Dom Young's rugby journey?

Matty Johns makes call on Dom Young's next club as Roosters pay $250,000 for star to leave

Matty Johns has expressed that the Newcastle Knights would welcome back Dom Young "with open arms," hinting at a potential return as early as the next round.

The Sydney Roosters are reportedly willing to let the English winger go if he finds a deal with another NRL club, as he has struggled to perform at Bondi, failing to meet the standards from his three seasons at Newcastle.

After being dropped to reserve grade by coach Trent Robinson, Young finds himself behind several players in the lineup.

The Knights are currently favored to re-sign Young, and recent reports reveal that the Roosters are prepared to contribute $250,000 towards his $450,000 contract for the season, making the financial burden lighter for any interested clubs.

During a discussion on SEN radio, Johns advocated for the Knights to actively pursue Young's return, noting that with current wingers like Greg Marzhew and James Schiller, Schiller might be the one to give way if Young comes back.

Johns remarked, "Not a doubt.

Straight away with open arms," when questioned about Newcastle's interest.

He emphasized that Young is "too good a player to go back home (to England) and play in the Super League and give up on the NRL dream."

Roosters legend Bryan Fletcher commented that Sydney's bright lights may be overwhelming for Young, suggesting he would thrive better in Newcastle's less intense environment.

Johns added, "He's a very quiet young bloke, really humble," and emphasized that Young has struggled in the Roosters' system, which hasn't seemed to fit him.

In contrast, he stated, "at Newcastle he never looked that vulnerable," indicating that a return to his former club might benefit Young significantly.
