Wests Tigers' Fainu attracts PNG interest

Wests Tigers called out over 'desperate' $4 million move for Fainu brothers

At 22, Samuela Fainu has played 65 NRL games since making his debut in 2023.

After beginning his career in the middle third, he has developed into a high-minute, productive edge forward.

His exceptional 2026 campaign rapidly lifted his market value before injury, with the PNG Chiefs understood to be interested in signing him.

The Wests Tigers have extended Fainu's contract by two years, keeping him at the club until the end of 2029.

His previous deal ran through 2027, and rival clubs could negotiate with him from November 1.

"The club has looked after me, my family, and my brothers very well," Fainu said.

He added, "I love playing alongside these boys, so to get to do it for two more years makes me very excited about what's to come."

Fainu also praised coach Benji Marshall's values, saying, "Benji Marshall values family and, for me, that's one of the most important things in my life."

He said the Tigers were building towards something special and that he wanted to guide younger players next season.

Sione Fainu has also re-signed, while Latu is discussing his future with the club.
