Newcastle centre hints ex-boss stalled deal

‘Now he’s gone’: Bradman Best takes parting shot at former Knights official

Bradman Best will make his Kangaroos debut against Fiji at the World Cup this weekend, with his next club contract also in focus.

The 25-year-old centre has a year remaining with Newcastle but plans to test his value in free agency from November 1. The Eels are among the rival clubs expected to pursue him.

Best has spent all eight years of his career at the Knights and is coming off a grand final appearance. He suggested former recruitment head Peter O'Sullivan may have held up a new deal before leaving Newcastle for the Broncos.

Best said his young family and their security were important considerations.

"My family (is what drives me) and making sure that we're settled and happy. I'm a father now so I've got to make sure we're happy and healthy," he said.

He also wants to win games and pursue a premiership after the grand final loss.

"But I also want to win games. Money isn't the be all and end all, but it goes a long way. I want to make sure that I'm winning games. I've just come off a grand final loss, and I want to chase that premiership.
