Walters Negotiates Future with Broncos

Brisbane Broncos dummy half Billy Walters has revealed that he is currently engaged in discussions regarding his future with the club, though he remains uncertain about staying at Red Hill.

After suffering an ACL injury during a qualifying final against the Canberra Raiders last year, Walters missed the remainder of the finals series but is expected to return to play in the coming weeks.

His contract is set to expire at the end of 2026, making each game a crucial assessment of his market value moving forward.

It has been widely speculated that the Broncos may face challenges in retaining Walters due to their salary cap situation, which already includes multiple lucrative contracts.

Although the sudden departure of Payne Haas to the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the end of this year has created some financial flexibility, the club has already allocated significant funds to Mitch Barnett and other roster improvements, raising questions about their ability to keep Walters.

As a player eligible for extension through 2027, Walters noted that team composition is a key factor in ongoing discussions. He told News Corp about his negotiations but expressed uncertainty about his future.

"The Broncos are keen to keep me, they've said that," Walters shared.

"I love the Broncos. I loved them growing up and it's such a great club."

"I'd love to stay at the Broncos, but with the salary cap and the amount of young hookers that are coming through, we've got to make sure it works for everyone."
