Walker Shines Amid Contract Uncertainty for Roosters

Robinson reveals ‘simple’ Walker message in contract drama, DCE’s cryptic reply on future

Trent Robinson has shared insight into Sam Walker's impressive focus amid ongoing contract negotiations, as the Roosters halfback led his team to a 12-6 victory over Penrith on Thursday night.

Robinson addressed the media on Wednesday, commenting on reports that contract discussions with the 24-year-old had stalled. Walker is said to have rejected a lucrative four-year extension worth approximately $5 million.

The persistent rumors regarding Walker's contract could have easily distracted him before such a pivotal match, yet the Queensland Origin representative appeared to be fully engaged.

The same determination was evident in skipper Daly Cherry-Evans, who also made headlines this week after being linked to a transfer overseas to Hull FC at the end of the season.

Cherry-Evans made a strong statement by scoring two tries and earning the man-of-the-match award. However, given Walker's relative inexperience, there were legitimate concerns about how he might cope with the external pressure.

Robinson, though, indicated that he received clarity on Walker's mindset earlier in the week, dispelling doubts about his readiness.
