The NRL's contentious disruptor rule has made its unwelcome return, as evidenced by the Sydney Roosters being denied a vital try during a highly anticipated clash with the Penrith Panthers on Thursday night.
With the opportunity to extend their lead, Robert Toia jumped on a loose ball after Tom Jenkins, under pressure from Mark Nawaqanitawase, attempted to ground it.
However, the Bunker intervened to rule out the try, stating that Nawaqanitawase had obstructed Jenkins during his leap.
In that moment, Nawaqanitawase extended an arm but was neither attempting to catch the ball nor redirect it to a teammate.
The disruptor rule has sparked considerable controversy earlier this season, and in April, the NRL acknowledged that two previous calls involving this rule were, in fact, incorrect.
