The United States national team, known as the 'Hawks', could receive an automatic place at the 2030 Rugby League World Cup, but first the country's governing body must gain full membership of the International Rugby League.
The USA Rugby League is currently an affiliate member. As a result, the Hawks could not enter qualifying for the 2026 tournament.
Jamaica was the Americas' only International Rugby League representative in the regional qualifiers and advanced to the final play-off, where it lost to France.
News Corp reports that the 2030 World Cup is set to be held in the United States, with most matches expected in Hawaii and Utah.
The choice of those states is linked to their large Pasifika populations. Hawaii has one of the world's largest Pasifika communities outside Tonga, Samoa, Australia and New Zealand, while Salt Lake City ranks among the top 10.
National federations were reportedly informed of the decision at a meeting on Saturday. Final confirmation is expected early next week, ahead of the 2026 final in Brisbane.
The plan would extend the sport's push into the North American market. It remains unclear whether Las Vegas will host any matches.
