The revival of the Perth Bears is set to reignite passion among two fan bases in Australian rugby league.

WA Premier Roger Cook, a dedicated Rabbitohs supporter, played a significant role in securing the team's establishment, while ARLC chairman Peter V'landys insisted on including the Bears in the new setup.

The Bears and their legacy stem from the turbulent history of the sport; the Reds entered the ARL premiership in 1995 but folded at the end of 1997 due to the Super League war, while the Bears faced rationalization when rival competitions merged.

This new team in Perth, donning red and black colors, aims to unify these two fan bases that have longed for a presence in the elite competition for over 20 years.

The Bears, after grappling with various challenges, including an unsuccessful relocation attempt from North Sydney to Gosford in 1999 and delays in constructing a new stadium, are now positioned to call Perth home.

Their journey has been tumultuous, culminating in insolvency and a brief joint venture with Manly, further complicating their status within the NRL, especially when teams were being culled to 14 in 2000.

With a storied past driving their future, the Bears' return represents a vital opportunity for revival in the rugby league community, rekindling hope and support among their loyal fans.
