The Gold Coast Titans have reported that Jensen Taumoepeau has suffered an ankle dislocation during Saturday's narrow 19-18 victory against the Penrith Panthers, resulting in his season being cut short.
Taumoepeau left the field in the 72nd minute after contesting a high ball against Tom Jenkins, leading to an awkward fall that required him to be transported off via a medical cab.
The match experienced a lengthy delay before he could be moved, and it was evident that he was in significant pain from the serious injury.
The Titans stated that the rookie is in "good spirits following successful surgery on Sunday" and is preparing to start his recovery journey.
The 26-year-old made his debut in Round 10 this season and has been a consistent presence in Josh Hannay's lineup since then.
Although he has yet to score a try, Taumoepeau has contributed notably, averaging 145 metres per game and achieving 14 tackle busts, demonstrating his defensive capabilities.
He joined the Titans from the Cronulla Sharks, where he spent several years in the reserve grade with the Newtown Jets while training with the NRL team under Hannay's guidance.
The Titans' unexpected win against the Panthers marks their fourth of the season, pushing them further away from the wooden spoon as they now hold a three-win lead over the struggling St George Illawarra Dragons.
Jaylan de Groot is expected to fill the void left by Taumoepeau, having participated in several games this year and serving as injury cover from the bench.
