Addin Fonua-Blake, a key player for the Cronulla Sharks, expressed disappointment over the decision regarding their finals match location this weekend.
The NRL has mandated that the Sharks' 'home' playoff game will take place at Allianz Stadium, asserting that Ocean Protect Stadium is not suitable for a Week 1 fixture.
This shift is particularly disheartening for the Sharks, who thrive on the support of their local fans in the Shire, but will now be playing away from home at Moore Park.
The limitations at their usual venue have been an issue, with Shark Park currently accommodating only 13,500 spectators due to ongoing development.
The change to Allianz Stadium may boost overall attendance, yet it strips the Sharks of their intimate home-field advantage and unique atmosphere, which could have been problematic for their opponents, the Cowboys.
Fonua-Blake conveyed his frustration, stating, "It's not ideal," and highlighted the effort the team has put in all season to earn home advantage.
He further remarked, "You work so hard during the year to get a home semi, and for it to be taken away, it's unfair," emphasizing the value of a home crowd that can feel like an additional player.
As they move forward, he acknowledged that the team must adapt and focus on performing, regardless of the circumstances.
