The Gold Coast Titans have unexpectedly decided to change their leadership structure during the current season, promoting Moeaki Fotuaika to co-captain alongside Tino Fa'asuamaleaui for the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
Previously, Fa'asuamaleaui held the captaincy alone, but with Fotuaika now joining him, the Titans aim to avoid finishing with the wooden spoon.
This announcement follows Fotuaika's recent milestone, in which he became the most-capped player in the club's history, marking his 174th game for the Gold Coast.
Josh Hannay, the Titans' coach, remarked that this promotion is a well-deserved recognition for Fotuaika, who is highly regarded within the organization.
"Moe has earned enormous respect throughout the club with the way he carries himself every day," he stated.
Since his arrival at the end of last year, it has been evident that Tino has assumed a leadership role after being named captain in 2022.
"In consultation with Tino, he was clear that he welcomed Moe's ascension to co-captain - so much so that he wanted to deliver the news to Moe himself."
"They have both been pillars of this organisation, and Tino couldn't be happier to share the leadership responsibilities with his running mate."
This pivotal decision has garnered full support from Tino, who expressed his approval of Fotuaika's new role.
