The Wests Tigers have made a significant move by signing Dolphins outside back Jake Averillo on a lucrative four-year deal worth $2.75 million.

Averillo is set to compete for a centre position next season but is primarily viewed as the future replacement for Jarome Luai in the halves once he transitions to the PNG Chiefs after the 2027 season.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the 25-year-old will be returning to Sydney after finalizing the agreement.

With Latu Fainu and Jock Madden's contracts expiring at the end of next year, Benji Marshall gains greater flexibility to adjust his halves combination for the long-term benefit of the Tigers.

Having played 132 NRL games with the Bulldogs and the Dolphins, Averillo currently ranks behind Jack Bostock and Herbie Farnworth in the centre lineup at Redcliffe.

Known for his speed and attacking prowess, Averillo is anticipated to be an exceptional addition for the Tigers, showcasing moments of being an elite game-breaker.

Averillo attracted interest from several Sydney clubs for the upcoming season, including the Cronulla Sharks, Manly Sea Eagles, and St George Illawarra Dragons.

Ultimately, he has chosen to join the Tigers, who have recently completed a significant re-signing initiative involving several key players.

Notable current stars like Terrell and Taylan May, Jahream Bula, Sunia Turuva, and Heamasi Makasini have committed to long-term contracts with the club.
