Tigers Pursue Averillo as Luai Successor

The Wests Tigers are positioning themselves to secure the services of Dolphins star Jake Averillo for the upcoming season, as his contract with Redcliffe concludes this year.

In their quest to plan for life beyond Jarome Luai, recent reports from the Daily Telegraph suggest that the Tigers are nearing a deal with Averillo, aiming to establish him as a long-term halves partner.

The Samoan international drew attention in late April when he became the inaugural player to sign with the PNG Chiefs and is set to depart the Tigers at the end of the 2027 season.

Luai's five-year Tigers contract includes renewal clauses, allowing him to assess his options annually regarding his future with the club.

Averillo is seen as a viable five-eighth option to team up with Adam Doueihi in the halves. His exceptional versatility has allowed him to play various positions, including centre, and he could seamlessly integrate into the engine room if required.

While the Sea Eagles, Sharks, and Dragons have reportedly expressed interest in Averillo, it appears that the Tigers are leading the race to secure his signature.

The joint venture has made significant strides in extending their young talent following Luai's announcement. Players like Sunia Turuva, Taylan May, Terrell May, Jahream Bula, and Heamasi Makasini have opted to stay loyal to the Tigers, envisioning a bright future under coach Benji Marshall.

This influx of re-signings could positively impact future recruitment and retention strategies at Concord, marking an exciting chapter for fans of the Tigers.
