Latrell Mitchell of the South Sydney Rabbitohs is set to stay off the field until after Game 2 of the State of Origin series, according to coach Wayne Bennett.

Mitchell is dealing with a bulging disc issue that will prevent him from contributing to the NSW Blues' second match, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, indicating that his return is a few weeks away.

"He won't be picked in Origin. He won't be back until we play Parra, which is after Origin II."

The talented center is expected to make his comeback during the Round 18 clash against the Eels, resulting in him missing significant games against the Manly Sea Eagles and the Brisbane Broncos, followed by a bye week.

Since joining the Rabbitohs, Mitchell has faced numerous injuries, playing only 11 games in each of the last two seasons. This back injury is particularly unfortunate, as he was recently showcasing his best form at left center.

Meanwhile, teammates Campbell Graham and David Fifita are optimistic about returning for their matchup at Brookvale, a key game during the Origin period where points are at a premium.

With Jack Wighton also slated to return in Round 18, the Rabbitohs are poised to charge into the latter part of the season with their star players back in action, positioning themselves well for a potential run in September.
