Laulilii Faces Suspension Following Aerial Challenge; Two Others Charged
Luke Laulilii of the Wests Tigers is facing a possible suspension due to an aerial challenge that may have ended Bailey Simonsson's season.
The Eels winger suffered a severe ankle injury when he landed awkwardly following a tackle in the air.
Laulilii received a penalty and was sent to the sin bin during the match, and has since been charged with Grade 2 dangerous contact by the NRL's match review committee.
He has the option to accept an early guilty plea, which would result in a one-match suspension, or contest the charge at the judiciary, potentially facing a two-match ban.
In addition, the match review committee issued two more charges from the Easter Monday game, with Apisai Koroisau cited for a hip drop tackle and Sean Russell for dangerous contact.
Koroisau's hip drop on Kitione Kautoga occurred early in the match and, as it is his third offence, he faces a $3,000 fine if he pleads guilty early, or the risk of two matches if he opts to fight the charge.
Meanwhile, Sean Russell's Grade 1 charge is his first offence, and with a three-year incident-free discount, he could pay $750 for an early guilty plea. Alternatively, he could face $1,500 if he contests and loses.
All three players need to submit their pleas by midday (AEDT) on Tuesday, with hearings scheduled for Tuesday evening at NRL HQ.
