Tigers Offer Schuster NRL Comeback Chance

The Wests Tigers have offered Josh Schuster a much-needed chance to revive his NRL career, marking his first return to the field since 2023.

Once hailed as one of the most thrilling and promising young talents in the NRL, the former Manly junior's journey has seen some unexpected challenges.

After an early exit from his substantial contract with the Sea Eagles, he joined South Sydney on a train-and-trial basis in 2025, but struggled to find his form while playing in the NSW Cup, eventually stepping back from the sport.

Today, the Tigers announced that Schuster has signed a NSW Cup contract for the 2026 season and will participate in NRL training sessions weekly.

Recent reports from NewsCorp indicate that Benji Marshall met with Schuster to discuss making a comeback.

"He said I want to come and have an opportunity with you guys," Marshall relayed to the Daily Telegraph.

"I don't want any money. I don't need an NRL contract. I'm happy to play NSW Cup. It's not about the money. It's about the opportunity to get my life back on track and play footy again."

"He's got to train with the NSW Cup side. He will train with us one day a week, and if we can help him turn his life around, then why not?"

"The only risk is him letting himself down again, which is up to him. The ball is in his court. He seemed very genuine about that."
