Lorenzo Talataina stands on the brink of fulfilling a lifelong aspiration, as the young Parramatta talent emerges as an unexpected first-grade candidate following a hamstring injury to Jonah Pezet during the match against the Wests Tigers on Easter Monday.
According to The Daily Telegraph's Brent Read, Pezet is expected to undergo scans that are likely to keep him out of Sunday's game against the Gold Coast Titans, which opens the door for Talataina to step in and potentially make his NRL debut.
Talataina recently extended his contract with the Parramatta Eels, committing until the end of the 2028 season. Currently, he is a development contracted player but is anticipated to join the top 30 next season, aiming for a spot in the Eels' 22-man roster when selections are revealed on Tuesday afternoon.
If the scans confirm the worst for Pezet, Talataina could transition from a promising prospect to a genuine debutant.
The young five-eighth has already made three appearances in the NSW Cup this season, showcasing the skills that earned him the SG Ball Player of the Year accolade last year while leading his team to an SG Ball Grand Final.
