Ethan Ferguson, once a celebrated young talent in rugby league, is set to return to the professional arena after a two-year break. The former NSW Blues Under-19s and Schoolboys star took time away from the sport, prioritizing mental health, and subsequently left the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
Ferguson has signed on with the Tweed Seagulls for the upcoming QLD Cup season. His relationship with the Gold Coast Titans suggests a potential path back to the NRL in the future. Previously, he played in several NSW Cup matches for both the Rabbitohs and Newcastle Knights.
As the cousin of notable players Latrell and Shaquai Mitchell, he was once viewed as one of the most promising centre prospects in rugby. In 2023, he represented the Under-19s NSW Blues and earned recognition as an Australian Schoolboy.
"First I want to give all glory to God because without his guidance I wouldn't have been able to make it through everything I've gone through," Ferguson expressed on social media.
"Secondly, I want to give a massive thank you to my beautiful fiancée Chloe Puliuvea and the amazing son for helping me get through my mental health journey and really making my life such an amazing journey."
Ferguson added, "I honestly didn't know if I'd ever make this post or if I'll ever step onto a field again but I'm glad to announce that I'M BACK."
