North Queensland Cowboys and Queensland Maroons State of Origin winger Murray Taulagi is poised to join rugby union in the South of France.
He is set to become a free agent at the end of this season, having had an offer from North Queensland that was subsequently retracted due to delays in negotiations.
Initially, Taulagi was on track to sign with the Sydney Roosters, who sought to enhance their backline options.
However, reports from News Corp. indicate that he has decided to pursue a career in the rival code instead.
Recently, the Roosters have seen several key outside backs depart, including Joseph Manu, Joseph Suaalii, and Mark Nawaqanitawase, who will also transition to rugby union at the end of this season.
To offset these losses, the Roosters have discovered Robert Toia as a promising State of Origin centre and retained the injury-prone Billy Smith, while also securing Reuben Garrick from the Manly Sea Eagles for next season.
As Daniel Tupou approaches retirement, this opens an avenue for the Roosters to groom an option for one wing spot over the next year, especially as outside backs like Cody Ramsey and Rex Bassingthwaite have impressed in the NRL.
Taulagi's relationship with rugby union dates back to his high school days when he excelled in the sport before committing to the Cowboys.
The 27-year-old is expected to play as either an inside or outside centre in a Top 14 team, which is the same league where Joseph Manu currently competes.
