Sydney Roosters terminate Sam Walker talks

Sam Walker with the Kangaroos and Roosters.

PNG Chiefs and Perth Bears could pursue Sam Walker if the halfback leaves the Sydney Roosters, whose owner Nick Politis has withdrawn the club's contract offer.

Walker is contracted through the end of the 2027 season, and the Roosters want to honour that deal.

However, the club reportedly would not prevent him from departing earlier if he wanted to move.

The dispute began over salary, with negotiations stopping in August.

Walker reportedly told his management he wanted to stay, hoping to secure a new deal before making his Test debut.

After a meeting last Monday, the Roosters believed he would accept a three-year offer worth $1.2 million a season, potentially rising to $1.4 million through clauses.

His management took time to review the proposal, then sought improved terms.

That request angered Politis, who immediately withdrew the offer and arranged for the club to issue a statement.

Walker must now decide whether to revive talks or seek another club.

If he leaves before next season, CODE Sports has linked the Roosters with Tom Dearden and Ethan Strange.

Both are contracted through 2028, so their clubs would require compensation.

If Walker remains unsigned by November 1, he can negotiate with rival clubs for the 2028 season.
